The problem most likely isn't your newsreader, its your news server. Some
servers don't carry binary groups. I see that you are posting from google
groups. Thats definately not going to help you with what you need.

Sometimes, your ISP offers limited or fairly decent news server access as
part of your service; and a lot of people don't even know about it. Check
with your internet service provider.

If they don't, there are several "for pay" news servers out there that
offer high speed transfers for binary groups and thousands of groups to
choose from. One of these is "Giganews".

If you don't want to or can't afford to pay for news service, you can try
to find a free server that is open and might carry the groups you are
looking for. A word of caution, though, sometimes free or "open" servers
are very limited, incomplete, slow, don't allow posting, don't allow
binaries, nad they can disappear overnight (usually when whoever it is
thats running the server finds out there's a whole bunch of people using
their server and eating up all of their bandwidth, and decides to "lock
it down". One sight that documents all of the free servers that are out
there is :http://freenews.maxbaud.net/ . Check their site for databases
on the different types of "open" servers they have found, and add it to
your news reader.

Now, about your news-reader: There are several different ones available;
some for free, some for pay. They all perform a little differently
according to your demands and tastes. Outlook Express is probably already
on your computer and can be decent at reading text, but it "Top Posts" by
default, and doesn't handle binaries very well. Binaries are usually
posted in parts, and it OE you have to highlight all of the parts and
right click to tell it to "Combine and Decode", and that can be hell for
really large files. Also, many people who post binaries choose to do so
using a different encoding scheme call "yEnc", which OE can't handle
without third part add-ons, and even then its a little complicated.

I use XNews. Its free, and handles binaries very well by grouping all of
the parts together in one line so all you have to do is tell it to decode
and save; and it handles yEnc as well. It can seem a little confusing to
set up and operate to those who aren't very computer saavy, but once you
get the hang of it, its great. You can find it here:

My favorite is Forte's Agent . . . I want it, but don't want to pay for it .
. .
So I don't use it :(
So, for now, I use OE.

I recommend xnews but I doubt its your news reader. Its most likely your
server, not all of them carry all ng's.

The problem you might be having is with your news group provider. Check
with your ISP or whatever news service you use.
